Here are a few before & afters of the front porch...despite the fact that it's still not officially completed. The fret work above is not finished in these photos...nor is the floor painted either. However, enough progress has been made that it's fun to see the effect. So here we go! Click on any image for slideshow...
I came across these posts on a couple wedding forums and, to my delight, discovered we could definitely do this!
Wanted: Rent your farm/barn/land for one day (Posted Thu, Jul 30 '09 at 12:27 UTC)
Looking for a scenic farm/barn/ woodsy/grassy/hilly/ scenic area to host a wedding and reception. Plans are for about 150 guests. Pig roast picnic type atmosphere. Will be using a large tent/tables and chairs and porta johns. Music will be played, but at a more background type setting rather than blaring.
Alcohol is wished to be served, but this event is more of a family oriented type, so alcohol would be limited to a few pre mixed options, like summer sangria and mojitos and a few selections of bottled beer. We will to be respectful of the property and privacy of owners and will make sure all clean up is done to perfection.
Plans are for a June 2010 wedding. Relaxed country theme. Schedule would be approx= 8:00 am set up and decorating/ 11 am ceremony/ 12:30 lunch/ take down and clean up around 4 pm or 5pm. Looking for scenic land, trees for shade. Activities would mostly be frisbee, football and such. Availability to electrical source is a necessity.
Willing to place deposit for useage and pay for day rental of area. Please drop me a line with your phone # and any other information. Looking to stay in the walworth county rock county area. Thank you!

Howdy all, We're planning a venue search trip to ME in early March. Originally we had hoped to find a barn to host our wedding but the few options I've found online seem to be rather pricey (for our budget). Has anyone heard of any options that I may have missed? It seems that most of the barn-farm options are in Southern ME and even though I grew up around Acadia, can't think of anything on MDI or near there. Or have any suggestions for locations that might have that rustic feel but may not have a barn on-site?
We'd rather not go the tent route if possible just due to cost. Wedding size is ~100....
Yep! Our Meadow Lake Farm could do this... for sure! Perhaps by next summer??
My upstairs bedroom window overlooks the lake....I love watching how the seasons are changing from this new vantage place. Lately the mist rises in a thick cloud above the water and off the rooftops. It's a beautiful ever changing surreal scene to wake up to as the sun rises...sort of my very own Room With a View!
A trip to Mainely Apples orchard over in Dixmont last Friday with our friends, the Dows. The weather was unseasonably warm...perfect! And the Fall foliage is at its peak right now. I picked lots of the Ida Reds (good keepers from what I hear) and gave the kiddos their own bags to fill with whatever apples tickled their tastebuds! Click on any image for slideshow...
Peeking through the french doors into my new little (temporary) office alcove off the living room....visions of what the new french doors opening into that space will be! It's imperative that this working girl be able to see a blazing fire in the fireplace (or wood stove) while doing all of her very important work. And equally imperative is the big picture window overlooking a pasture and hay meadow on the opposite side. Working girls need such things, ya know.
I'm a Texas girl now living the country life on a lakeside farm in central Maine with my four kids... and of course the horses, chickens, bunnies, cats, and whatever other critters happen to wander in periodically and take up residence.
