Loving these daybed build-ins...and colors! Think something like this would be so cute for our 2 younger daughters downstairs bedroom....or to incorporate some aspect of the detail work into their room configuration. More of the above bedroom by Maine-based designer, Nicola Manganello below...
This is Potato Chip, our new pony, delivered to us this morning by my farrier. We were hoping to get Chippy last Spring but it didn't work out. So I was quite surprised to get the message Friday evening saying that Potato Chip was ours for the taking! He's 10, he's sound, he's a great size (smaller than Baby) and temperament for the younger girls...and he's free. What else...came with some tack plus a trial run, no-strings-attached deal...delivered. How does a mom who was determined not to take on anymore horses for winter say 'no' to that? She doesn't. So here he is....
And the girls, Babycakes and Bonnie, totally playing hard to get!
They're such a tease!
A hint of sunshine after the storm (Hurricane Sandy) moved its way up the East Coast this week. We fared just fine...mostly rain and 25 mph winds with a few higher wind gusts....nothing abnormal for this time of year in our region. Our thoughts and sympathies go out to all of those south of us who are still awaiting power and normalcy in their lives once again. All of our animals were fine, too. I was most concerned about the horses but Andrew checked on them in the middle of the night...in the thick of it actually....and gave them some extra hay to munch on. They were pretty much oblivious to any crazy weather going on outside....if only I could be so unperturbed! (wink!)
So it's Friday evening and my farrier calls up to ask if we want her pony, Potato Chip...she could bring him over on Saturday or Sunday. Sure, yes, we want Potato Chip...of course! The kiddos are ecstatic. We determined not to take on any more horses but this will be a sort of trial run, no strings attached deal. So today it's off to get more temporary fencing in case Potato Chip and our mares need some 'time out' while getting acquainted. Life's full of surprises!
This is a peek at our new furniture for the LR and the newly installed wood stove/pipe that Andrew painted an almond color....holding its paint job well and putting out the heat very nicely, I might add! This room is far from finished but it is cozying up a bit for the cold, blustery days and evenings of Fall.
I needed small scale seating that was still cushy and comfortable, easy to manage and move around, and neutral with a slightly Victorian or traditional feel. These pieces from Pier1 really fit the bill! The 2 chairs off to one corner have a French script fabric that coordinated nicely....and can also just slide over if we need more seating for parties or evening gatherings around the wood stove.

I'm also enjoying my little office alcove off the LR...the retro chairs were a fun find I nabbed at a local antiques store for a steal! As you can see, my fave punch color is turquoise at the moment! As I said, still lots of work remaining for this room....but this at least provides a taste for things to come!
I'm a Texas girl now living the country life on a lakeside farm in central Maine with my four kids... and of course the horses, chickens, bunnies, cats, and whatever other critters happen to wander in periodically and take up residence.
