As much as I enjoy our farmhouse, I've become more and more intrigued with the idea of a new build up on our hay meadow....for a number of reasons. First and foremost: THE VIEW. It overlooks the larger part of the lake. Secondly, the noise factor. I'd like more privacy and distance from the noise of a somewhat busy road. Thirdly, the cool factor! I'm ready to try something really unique and different from anything I've ever lived in before. I'm ready to go streamline and contemporary with an eye toward breathtaking vistas from ultra huge windows. The feeling of outdoors in, and better functional living space for our family.
I've actually got a few ideas on the design for a new build. Overall, I'm leaning toward a more contemporary feel that could go a few directions. One might be a more modern style farmhouse and another might be a large contemporary barn style.
Recently, I came across this gorgeous home located in Australia. Its location and look resemble the elements I'd love to bring to the back of our hay meadow. The architecture resembles that of an oversized lean-to which speaks to the run in stall barn so common to horse farm properties. I love the simplicity of timber beams with cement. We could even go with some steel beams and galvanized tin used in large barn or arena construction.
This kitchen is amazing...amazing to me in its mix of elements, openness, and attention to detail. But check out the views from those incredible windows....I already feel like I'm staring at our meadow! And this space...wow. The kids could roller skate in here! Again, love that mix of plank wood and metal backsplash behind the stove. I'd have to create something suitable to Maine winters but the feel of this space combined with the outdoors is fantastic!
This pavilion seals the deal. Those cement benches and table aren't going anywhere. Talk about low maintenance. Those won't blow away or tip over or suffer from blizzards or have to be repainted each season. The girls could tack the horses up here! That huge cement fireplace is great for a crowd or a cozy twosome...and can be seen from the living room, kitchen and dining. It's exciting to brainstorm more ideas and I'll be sharing here on my blog. Meanwhile, for more of my Hay Meadow House ideas check out my Ideabook on Houzz.
